Poison Study

Poison Study - I am not into fantasy and magic and that kind of genre but Poison Study left a sweet taste in me. I didn’t know it would have magic so I was about to abandon it when I found out.I’m glad I didn’t though. The amount of magic is not that much, in fact is very little and intertwined in a way that didn’t make the book seem like a totally fantasy book at all.Is this good or bad? Well, it depends of the taste! For me was good :- )After a year in a filthy prison for killing the son of a general, the day comes of Yelena execution. Lucky for her (or was all planned?) the next in row for execution has alsothe choice to become the food taster of the Commander. Obviously, Yelena chooses tobecome the next food taster and prays that poison is not her fate.I liked the world built by Snyder where women are given equal status as men. After the Commander takes over the city of Ixia, magicians are executed and magic is totallyforbidden. So when Yelena finds out that she possesses some magical powers of her own,she has to be very careful and hide that little detail of her life. But magic is not the only danger that Yelena has to be careful of. There is also general Bushell (or something like that) who wants to kill her to avenge the death of his son.Is Yelena really a murderer? She did confess to killing his son. But things are not as simple as they seem. Yelena is wise and smart and soon becomes a very important part in the survival of the Commander and the city itself.I didn’t like that Yelena trained to learn how to fight, use the bow… and can climb trees! Why, can Katniss be more obvious here? But other than that the book is a nice read. The romance is so pure and chaste! I am surprised that only a kiss was shared!I don’t think I’ll read the other books in the series though. If you notice, the story flows nicely but I just give it 3-stars. So, although it is nice and didn’t find it that exciting to read the rest of the books. Fantasy lovers will think otherwise, I’m sure.
